Grand Saddlery began from humble beginnings in 1967. Bert and Joyce Strandberg began their dream of importing Mexican crafts and leather products into the Calgary. This import business quickly grew into wholesaling Mexican goods at retailers across Canada. In 1969 Bert and Joyce incorporated B&J Imports Ltd.
In 1971 with a thriving wholesale business in place, Bert and Joyce made a strong retail decision. They obtained the name Grand Saddlery and Western Wear and opened their first retail store at Westbrook Mall in Calgary.
Over the years the inventory was changed to not only offer Mexican crafts but also a full range of western wear, saddles and tack for both the horse and rider. Our motto was “Put your rear in our gear”. The business managed by Bert and Joyce and their three children continued to expand throughout the city, including the famous 8th Avenue mall location, as well as Cochrane, Airdrie and Okotoks. They also set up shop at shows throughout Western Canada including the Calgary Stampede and Regina Agribition.
In 2010 the business is being redefined again. Bert and Joyce's daughter Denise Dalziel is closing the store in Cochrane and opening a warehouse location to meet your saddle and tack needs. They will also continue to offer their products online.
They will continue to sell great saddles and tack at competitive prices. The saddle and horse bar fitting that they have become known for, will be offered at both locations as well as at fairs and rodeos.
We thank you for your past patronage and look forward to continuing our retail relationship with you in our new locations.
